Excellent German violin with amazing highly flamed two-piece back. This violin as one player described it is “a great big fat sound” that fills the room. There are no repairs.

Stringed Instruments , Violins
Joannes Franciscus Pressenda q. Raphael fecit Taurini anno Domini 1830 — SOLD
A copy of Pressenda by an unknown maker probably in Bohemia ca. 1850. The high arch and tightly flamed one-piece back are eye-catching. The tone is full and it projects nicely. There are professionally repairs to the peg-box and to the top. All repairs are sound and the instrument is ready to be put into use.

A very solid German instrument with orange-brown varnish over a fine-grained spruce top and beautifully flamed ribs, back and scroll. The sound is a rich mellow tone with many layers of color.

A copy of Lupot by an unknown French maker ca. 1850. The violin with pale amber varnish projects well with a medium-dark tone that is very balanced on all strings. There are minor repairs to the top that are all very secure.

The label is illegible but the violin was clearly modeled after J.B. Schweitzer who was the foremost early violin maker in Budapest, Hungary. It was likely made in Bohemia in the late 1800s. It features the typical one-piece back with ebony locating pins and a wonderful projecting, focused sound.

A violin that appears to be of Flemish or Dutch origin made with double purfling in the manner of Giovanni Paolo Maggini. The deep viola-like quality of the sound is compelling and the patina of the one-piece back is eye-catching.

Violin from the South Germany/Austria region that appears to have been made in the mid-eighteenth century that shows the influence of Jacobus Stainer. It has a very straight-forward medium tone that sounds particularly good playing Bach and his contemporaries. There are multiple repairs from down through the years but all are very solid.
